My sister inadvertently found a great new trick to quiet the teeth grinding for a little while. Pogo happened upon a piece of gum that one of the kids dropped in the kitchen and he kept chewing and chewing and chewing. My sister was thrilled. A pig chewing is better than a pig grinding.
So I decided to give it a try. I gave Cocco a piece of gum. It is probably one of the funniest things I have ever seen Cocco do and I’m glad I captured it. Here is a video of our mini pig chewing gum!:
I thought he had swallowed it when he stood up but after I stood up he went right back into position and kept on chewing! Finally after probably 15 or 20 minutes he swallowed it.
It was hilarious and a nice reprieve from the constant pig teeth grinding but I won’t make it a habit. Chewing gum and then swallowing gum can’t be good for a mini pig. Anyway, my ears have been exposed to so many new sounds since Cocco has come to us so the grinding doesn’t faze me much anymore. It’s not pleasant, and a pig chewing is better than a pig grinding, but I’ll take the grinding over the squealing any day.

That’s really cute! But be sure you don’t give him sugarless gum made with artificial sweetener Xylitol. It is very toxic to dogs ( a couple pieces of gum can kill a small dog), Could be it doesn’t bother pigs, but you don’t want to find out the hard way it is toxic to a mini-pig.
Thank you so much for the tip! Now that you’ve said that, I think I did remember that for my dogs. It was definitely full fat bubble gum thankfully but we won’t test it. Definitely better to stay on the safe side.
