Bless your heart. Explaining the death of a pet is usually the first experience a child has with dying. it is so hard to help when you are hurting. Your daughter sounds like a very loving little girl. ♥

Aaaaaw Katie dat’s just pawful. It is hawd to handle when yous twy to splain to those too yung or hoo don’t speak hooman what has happened. Sumhow as they go fwu da stages of acceptin’ da loss and no longer havin’ dat luved one wound they seem to get it. It dusn’t always change how they feel ’bout da VET, but they unnewstand. Sendin’ hugs and Kitty kisses.

    Luv ya’

Donating pet beds is a great way to honor Lacci!!! May God comfort y’all during this difficult time.

aaww – That’s a great way of explaining it and letting the children work through it. An apple a day it is then. Off to see if I can get my daily apple from daddy early today. Hogs and snout kisses my sweet friends. XOXO – Bacon

Oh bless him! It’s funny how kids mind thinks. A work colleague of mine brought their dog into the office before taking it to the vets to be PTS and for weeks his son worried every time he brought their other dog to the office in case she too didn’t come home!

Sending a hug to you all!

It can be so hard for kids to understand what “gone” really is, and it’s a tough job for parents to explain, especially during the most painful early point of loss. Your kids are lucky they have such a caring mom who works so hard to help them through it all. And I’m sure Cocco is very happy with your decision on how to keep him healthy!

We were so sorry to read about you losing Lacci and yes – it is hard for little ones to understand why they are gone and why they not coming back. The apple a day sounds like a great idea to ease that worry.

  8. Frankie and Ernie

It is all so difficult to explain and for little ones to understand… that was a kind and gentle way of doing it.

Oh, Coccolino darling, we are very sad to hear about your sweet Lacci. Goodness, this must be hard for all of you. We are sending you our love and warm hugs from our 18 long and lovely leggies.

Maia’s drawing says it all……little ones just can’t quite understand the whole “gone to heaven” thing and that’s fine….there’s plenty of years ahead to understand things like that but I’m sure the idea of the apple keeping the doctor away was something BOTH kids could “hold onto” – great idea too…….it’s always so “empty” when we lose a loved one – furry or human. We’re keeping you in our minds and hearts.

    Hugs, Pam and Sam

The drawing, talking and taking action (blogging too!) help us process death. Change can be scary and having a positive attitude helps reframe death as a normal part of life. In my grief counseling I’ve found the most helpful and healing thing is to feel our feelings fully and accept all of them as okay. As adults, it’s easy to deny or minimize painful emotions but learning to face them and ride the waves of grief, they can naturally take their course. Children are more in touch with the ephemeral nature of emotions. They flow more easily facilitating the grieving steps. Sending continued ((hugs))

It is a tough concept for kids to understand but it is wonderful that they can express themselves. We all need that apple a day!

Time will make this easier. The loss never fully goes away but the pain of the loss does, leaving space in the mind and heart for all the love and happy memories that were shared.

its hard for kids. My grand daughter was just asking tonight as to where Jazzi is at and when shes coming back. It is even hard for us adults too. Bet that apple was a real treat. I have something to send you so I need you to e-mail me your mailing addy.
