My Mini Pet Pig . . . and Pals!

Heartwarming dog and pig cuddling

I never thought I would get to cuddle with both a dog and a pig in my lap at the same time. I did last night and it was heartwarming.

Cocco as usual had his whole face under my sweatshirt and blanket to be as close and warm as possible. Pixie finished playing on the carpet and jumped up too. She settled herself very comfortably right on top of the blanket and on top of Coccolino himself.

She rested her head right on his neck.

Coccolino was happy for the warmth.

Until he realized it was Pixie’s warmth.

My heartwarming moment ended just as Coccolino flexed his strong jaws right next to Pixie’s face. She cried for a second since he didn’t actually bite her (or hardly so it seems, it was hard to tell). That’s when I knew it was bedtime.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback on how to include all three pets in my blog. It really helped me figure out how to move forward.

I have changed my title and description and kept the url the same. This is Coccolino’s blog, always will be, but I will continue to incorporate Pizzico and Pixie as life plays out ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Katie, Just thought I would let you know I recently added a puppy into my “zoo” as well. Pekoe the teacup pig is almost 2 years old (next month!), we have a senior disabled shetland sheepdog (they are both completely indifferent to one another) and as of this last June added a puppy into the mix. I just thought I should warn you the “jaw flexing” can become more serious. Pigs are sensitive, territorial and jealous…which when a new family member is receiving attention (or food) can get not so nice. Pekoe had never really bit before we brought home the puppy but since then has nipped me and a few close friends(that she knows quite well). The puppy is now 6 months old and about 5x her size but that doesn’t stop her from being in charge. She will charge the puppy if he is getting attention and she won’t allow him anywhere near if she is in my lap since she sees that as “her territory”. Most of the time they are fine together and I’m not saying you will have the same problem with Coco just be careful that the kids don’t become an accidental victim of a jealous mini pig’s teeth. It hurts! I always love reading about Coco as he and Pekoe are very similar. Keep up the great blog and good luck with your zoo!

Thank you so much for your helpful comment! I appreciate it. I know pigs have a very hard time adjusting so I’m trying to take it slowly (tough as it is). I have heard many stories of pigs’ jealousy and charging and biting so I never leave them alone. Thankfully Cocco tolerates Pixie for the most part (even as she is annoyingly jumping and barking so he will play with her, yeah right!). Still, I don’t let food come anywhere near both of them because Cocco automatically opens his mouth for any smell and wouldn’t want it closing on the kids or pets. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Ahh these piggies know how to make their place within our hearts and they aren’t letting anyone take that spot :8)
